The First new character in the Sequel is Madeline. She is Quasimodo’s love interest. Her backstory is that when she was six she stole food from Sarousch and effectively became his slave. She works as Sarousch’s assistant in which primarily means “standing there and looking pretty” but I’m sure that’s just fancy talk for misdirection. Madeline is cursed by the burden of being pretty. She has short blond hair, blue eyes, red lips, and slim; very conventional looks.
Madeline however is not content to be Sarousch’s assistant, she wants to be a Tight Rope Walker. Saroush keeps her in line by saying that her looks are the only thing she has to contribute. Woe is her! This causes her to have low self-esteem, which is perfect for Quasimodo. He is self-loathing about his looks and so is she. She’s also attractive and for some reason Quasimodo is only interested in pretty girls so much for look not being important. So basically Quasimodo tries to convince her that there is more to people than the looks and since that’s her struggle she can accepts Quasimodo for the person he is on the inside. Actually given how creepy Quasimodo is in this film he would have said anything her to get her to like him but that’s a different topic.
As far as personality goes she’s kind of ditz who loves bad puns andwho talks to much. She’s also clumsy. Since She can see the gargoyles this means according to Quasimodo that she has an imagination @_@. Sure she’s sweet enough but compare to Esmeralda or most Disney heroines she’s bland. Naturally I would like to say she’s the blandest of the new characters but she is not. At least she gets some character development, we know she wants to be though, more than just a pretty girl and at least that’s worth something in this lame excuse for money erm movie. The problem is that we don’t see what that something more is. Is it her capacity to love Quasimodo? Because that’s not enough to make her interesting beyond looks (which isn’t that interesting either). I’m not sure what “something more” is that Quasimodo sees, I can guess though but not without being vulgar.
Next Character – Not Frollo, the “Villain” Sarousch
