Notre Dame, Paris, France – Matted Photo

The wedding theme month might be over but now that wedding is over we can talk about hunchback inspired Honeymoons also I just don’t’ really want to end the theme month midweek and it was easy to get a wedding-related live action fairy tale movie.

The obvious pick for a honeymoon that is inspired by Hunchback is Paris, kinda of a no brainer and it is the city of love.

However let’s just say you would rather go somewhere else. You could go to Rheims as Esmeralda and her mom were from there. You could also so to Montreal which is a lovely city and has a lovely Notre Dame that looks very similar to Notre Dame de Paris.

Though you could also go to place that was a French colony, I would recommend  New Caledonia, it’s not only gorgeous but it’s a popular honeymoon destination.

You could ALSO go to Notre Dame, Indiana because of the University.

Only two chapters today but trust me two is enough. @@

Book 3, Chapter 1, Notre-Dame
This is a lovely chapter to read. Hugo’s descriptions are musical. He talks about how time has stole from Notre Dame but has also enhanced its beauty. My favorite part however is towards the end of the chapter where he talks about the changing styling that Notre Dame exhibits and how it’s like a chimera. This word choice links Notre Dame’s structure to that of Quasimodo. This is mentioned later on but it’s a little hint.

Book 3, Chapter 2, A Bird’s-Eye View of Paris
Groans, this chapter feels so long. It basically describes in massive detail what medieval Paris was like. It’s one of those chapter that you can skip if you want. Sure you will miss some points later on about where the action is but it’s not a great thing to have missed it. This chapter is both interesting and boring. It’s boring because much like the chapter before, it grinds the story to a stop to give you all these massive descriptions. The information is really interesting though. Hugo’s language is just great to read. I just with info wasn’t wasn’t right slap in the middle of the story.

Let’s concluded with series of posts with titular character herself, Notre Dame.

Notre Dame means in French Our Lady. Notre Dame de Paris mean Our lady of Paris. All churches that have Notre Dame in them refer to the Virgin Mary.

The original title novel, Notre Dame de Paris, has double meaning, it refers to the Cathedral and Esmeralda. Esmeralda has a lot of association to the Virgin Mary in the book, but that is a post series for another time.

In the Madeline Hunchback episode, Ms. Cavell is trying to get the little girls into reading and writing. She takes them all over Paris and finally at the 6 minute mark, she introduces us to the Hunchback of Notre Dame, which is one of her favorites book. You would think after introducing the book they would talk about it a little bit, but no as soon as she spits out the title the song starts.

Some Guy and with a horse made of Steam,

Madeline episodes alway have a song in them regardless if it works or not. So you might think that the song would relate to the Hunchback or Notre Dame but no. The song is about writing and how Great Paris is for writers.

Ms Cavell and a French Poem

Considering writing is the overarching theme in this, it’s not a bad thing. What is a bad thing is that is the worst thing ever created by a human. A fair warning, this song has been known to kill people because it causes uncontrollable bleeding in the ears.

Madeline and her dumb song

Ms Cavell sings how Paris inspires writers. Then the girls sing the stupidest chorus ever;

“Write, Write Write on the left bank.”
“Left, Left, Left of on the Right.”

I have no words for the stupidness that is those lyrics and they repeat it twice. The bulk of the song’s lyrics just repeat the same idea, Paris inspires writers. The rhymes are ok but they are not by no means great. For whatever ok-ness they might have the chorus ruins it along with instruments and the visuals.

The Instruments are mostly a crappy cheap electronic piano. I hear an accordion which is so french and cliche but honestly the accordion is fine. However that godforsaken electronic piano with it stupid glittery cheap sound dominates this shit-feast of song.

Then there are the visuals. Now I haven’t got into the animation of Madeline yet but here it is in a nutshell is what I think of it; IT FUCKING SUCKS. And my god the song portion is atrocious in the visuals.

First off let’s editing. They use fucking slide pushes. Which is a transition that pushes the clip from left right off screen. They feathered the edge to make it look soft and gentle but it looks cheesy as fuck.

Then the little girls sing the chorus in an abstract space with letters behind them as they walk without ever going anywhere. But look their legs as the step wide. Their legs shouldn’t go that wide without their torso going down. I know this trivial but it fucking bothers me. It also looks like they animated one set of legs and put them on every girl including Pepito…. Pepito has girly legs.

It’s just laziness. But that is what the Madeline show is, Laziness, un-bashed and unapologetic laziness. Thankfully because it so fucking lazy the song is short. But even it’s length can’t help it from being the most awful song ever. Quickly, let me listen to I’d stick with you from the Disney Hunchback sequel. (listens to it) Ahhhhhhh….. way better.

Next Time; Let’s Complain about the Animation More….. (cries)

Paris Skyline by Michael Tompsett

Paris Skyline by Michael Tompsett

By the early 1800’s Notre Dame was in a sad state. The local government thought about tearing it down. Then, in 1804, Napoleon decided it was the perfect place for his coronation, which gave the gave the old girl a new lease on life.. However it wasn’t till 1831 that Notre Dame was given a large public opinion boost.

On January 15th 1831, Notre Dame de Paris was published. Hugo was commissioned to write the novel and its agenda was to increase appreciation of old gothic structures. Which it did and Notre Dame was given a restoration. And thanks to both Napoleon and Hugo (but mostly Hugo), Notre Dame is one of jewels of the Parisian Skyline.

Didi and Betty in Notre Dame, Rugrats in Paris

This reference comes from Rugrats In Paris. In this movie the Rugrats crew go to Paris and admits their normal wacky misadventures the babies have to stop a wedding. The Wedding takes place as Notre Dame de Paris. Didi marvels at being at the grand Parisian edifice while Betty makes remarks that if you see one church you have seen them all and to wake her if Didi should see a hunchback.

Plus the film has a couple of great shots of Notre Dame.

What can I say I’m a sucker for a movie that has elements of French and Japanese culture in it.

So these concerts have been in happening in Kiev, Moscow, and St Petersburg for the past 3 years. They have only happen outside these cities twice, in Paris and Beirut.  And while is this great, I think it’s unfair they keep occurring in mostly the same three cities. I know it comes down to the person organizing and to get it other locationa mean someone has to make it happen. But still Notre Dame de Paris seem to be popular world-wide and it’s unfair to the fan who can’t make it to those locations. I hope there more concerts in other places,  hopefully in either Montreal or New York City (both are “close” to me ^_~).

But where would like you to see the Notre Dame de Paris Concert Tour?

Hugo’s first  novel major was successful Notre Dame de Paris (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame), which was published in 1831 and was very successful. The novel  shamed Paris into restoring the then neglected Cathedral which was attaching many tourist because of the Book. It also inspired a renewed appreciation for pre-Renaissance buildings, which began to be actively preserved.  So Notre Dame as tourist attraction is largely due to Hugo and the book
