Silver, Gray or Whitish Disney Outfits, NO Wedding Gown
I’ve done many articles ranking costumes by colors from different types of movies (period, fantasy, etc). And for the most part they were hosted on Hubpages, long story super short, they will we be rolling out here in the near future.
But one type of movie I’ve neglected in those articles was animated movies. So since it’s January and it’s cold and snowy, I thought let’s rank silvery, gray and/or white costumes from Disney Animated Movies that are not Wedding Gowns. In the future we’ll rank non-Disney dresses because there are a lot great opinions out there.
There actually not as many costume in this color palette as one might think but there is enough for a compelling list. Also an old rule I had was one character from one movie but not in this case, only requirements are a female costumes, not a wedding gown, from a Disney Animated Movie and mostly reads as silver, white, or grayish. Mostly cool shades are the name of the game but one be slight.
There at least one weird take
List subject to change
Costumes were ranked on my subjective opinion
10. Virana, Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
I’ve only seen Raya and the Last Dragon once but wow does Virana have very pretty dress. It’s both structural and fluid with the tulip-like over-skirt maybe it’s suppose to be a fang. It looks like someone could conceivably wear this in real life and not too out of place.
9. Esmeralda, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)
Context is important, Esmeralda is in a prisoner look but still it look it could be worn by a cool girl. It’s has such a effortless cool look with its relaxed silhouette, the rope belt and if the tears were intentional it would be fashionable.
8. Jenny, Oliver and Company (1988)
Oliver and Company is an under-rated Disney movie that is defiantly has its cute moments especially since Oliver is an adorable kitten who gets accidentally adopted by Jenny. Jenny is daughter is rich Upper East Side family and as such her white outfit is rather cliche for child. It’s a white turtle-neck dress with some periwinkle legging and matching belt with sneakers. The ever-so slighty puffed three-quarter sleever elvated this look ever so slight out of being boring. Very wearable
7. Yzma, The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)
Every time I watch The Emperor’s New Groove I just like it a little more. Yzma, is a great and one of the best Disney Villains, and her Lab get-up is great. The white coat has an interesting gray geometric design that harkens to Inca-like setting.
6. Elsa, Frozen 2 (2019)
Frozen 2 has a weird plot but it goes hard on the costumes. They are all beautifully detailed and intricate. At the end of the movie Elsa takes her place as The 5th Spirit in this diaphanous yet still icy outfit. Not crazy about the leggings but the upper part is lovely and very graceful.
5. Ariel, The Little Mermaid (1989)
After Ariel is turned into a human her friends dress her in an old sail complete with a metal grommet and it’s giving high fashion. Like no one would wear this in real life but it would rock runway. She makes it work.
4. The Muses, Hercules (1997)
The Muses from Disney’s Hercules add so much soundtrack. Their costume are all similar yet unique to each one. They should have gotten a spin-off movie.
And now a ranking within a ranking.
- #5. Terpichore
- #4. Melpomene
- #3. Clio
- #2. Thalia
- #1. Calliope
Personally I just love the drapery on these dresses and I have a soft for Grecian looks in general.
3. Ariel, The Little Mermaid (1989)
Ok, this might be a take. I know people read this dress as purple or periwinkle, I get it BUT think the animators were trying to go for a silvery ocean vibe. So I say this dress reads of silvery. Despite any color debate this dress is simple with it’s lovely cowl neckline. And while it has a simple silhouette it’s still magical as King Triton created with magic. The glittering just everything.
2. Tiana, The Princess and the Frogs (2009)
At the end of the movie Tiana is tempted by Dr.Facilier. He does this by not by just turning her back into a human but also recreating her dream via “Almost There.” It’s a literal dream dress with a glittering straps a sleek silhouette and fur stole. She looks like a complete vision, this dress should get more attention, it’s too beautiful to be ignored.
1. Cinderalla, Cinderella (1950)
Yeah this an obvious pick but it’s the correct one. Cinderella’s Silvery Ball Gown is one of the most iconic movie dresses ever. It’s stunning, cliche and ever so sightly dramatic without ever being too much. Plus it’s made of magic. It’s perfection and everyone knows it.
