It’s really amazing the sheer amount of sequels that Pixar produces. SO when I heard that Finding Nemo got a sequel called Finding Dory I ignored it and promptly forgot about its existence, and I liked Finding Nemo when I first saw it in theaters. And in truth, this title does not have the same reputation, for better or worse, than other Pixar titles have.

Going into this movie I had low expectations, other than knowing that Dory was the focus and trying to find her parents, I knew nothing. I didn’t even 100% if was a sequel or a prequel. 

Did Finding Dory meet my low expectations or was it even worse?

Prior to making the decision to watch all the Pixar movies there were two Pixar movie titles I did NOT want to watch. One based on word of mouth and the other I had actually seen before. I knew I didn’t like it then. The Good Dinosaur is the later, I had seen it once before and I didn’t like it.

But MAYBE, just maybe on a rewatch I will like it more or at least appreciate its artistic or narrative merits more than the first time I watch this movie.

Inside Out is one of the few Pixar titles that I have watched the most as a jaded grown-up. Not sure if it’s more than four but this rewatch definitely makes it three times in the last few years. Arguably that is  not very impressive for some people but for me it’s quite a lot. 

Admittedly, the reason why I watched Inside Out  more over the other Pixar offerings had more to do with the subject matter than the entertainment of animation so in that capacity it was different viewing experience. 

But the question is as always is what are my own subjection feelings, opinions and emotions for Inside Out? Which emotion took control of my personality console as I watched Inside Out?

Monsters University is another new Pixar offering for me to watch. Now I was little harsh on Monsters INC but ultimately it was cute and good movie. So with that in mind I knew Monsters University was a prequel, apparently Pixar’s only prequel to date, and I went in to this one with a fair opened minded and measured exceptions.

And we’re back to the another Pixar title that is a rewatch. To be perfectly honest, I did not care for Brave the first time I watch it. I remember coming away from it really disliking Merida and also not really recalling the plot at all. I think I immediately forgot what the will-o-wisps did but remember them being in the movie. I think I just forgot the witch entirely.   

But I went into this rewatch with an open mind.

After slew of Pixar movies that I had already seen we are back to one that was new to me – Cars 2. This movie wasn’t a total mystery to me has I heard a little bit about it before watching. Mainly that it was “bad” and that it was a spy movie centering around Mater. Of course that premise sounds insane but maybe, just maybe Cars 2 isn’t as “bad” as the internet thinks?

Toy Story 3 is yet another Pixar title that I did watch before. I saw it exactly once and I don’t think I had much in the way of strong feelings toward it aside from the incinerator scene and the ending.

For many people, they consider Toy Story 3 the peak of the Toy Story movie franchise as well as Pixar in general.  And maybe they are right and for them it is but I can only speak to my opinion of the movie

I think my initial thought was it was too much premise and not enough plot. I will say that was bad take to walk away with even at the time. Technically I have seen Wall-E prior to this blog review series. However the first time I watched Wall-E on small TV and I was half paying attention. The next two times it was put on in the background so again I didn’t really pay much attention. I think when the movie started I tried to watch it in earnest and then something distracted me away from the cute robot.  

So really the fourth time was really the first time I actually payed attention to this movie. And is Wall-E actually worth mine or anyone’s attention?

“Ratatouille” Pixar Movie Review

“I don’t wanna go to the Bad Place. It’s scary, like the movie “Ratatouille”…I ain’t trying to have rats living in my hat and pulling my hair to get me to do stuff.” -Jason Mendoza (The Good Place)

To be honest going into this movie I really wanted to like it despite the fact that it scared Jason Mendoza of The Good Place. Typically with movies I also want to like them. I’m not sure if I had heard mix things this about this movie over the years but I was both scared and excited to watch Ratatouille. 

I did know something about this movie going into it like most of the plot and that the rat cooks using a human puppet. Again I knew premise of the movie in broad-strokes by not the intricacies of the story or of the characters.

So did the movie meet my exceptions or did it serve only to waste my time?
