There are 9 Reptiles with 1 Amphibian Exception
In honor of Zootopia 2, I’m do a list of my top favorite Disney Reptiles plus one technical amphibian because it was too cute not to include.
These rules or strictly speaking guidelines that are not to strict. I had wanted this ranked list to only in closed non-magical, non anamorphic reptiles but that went out the window pretty quickly. SO really the only rule is no dragons (sorry Mushu.) Though that gives me another idea for another list for another day and maybe more animal types because I happen to love animals of all kinds.
Also because not including Pixar as it’s “the other” studio BUT there will a Pixar honorable mention to two.
10. Frank, The Rescuers Down Under (1990)
In truth I do for get about Frank but he is cute and he’s Frill Lizard. He under-rate but very expressive and delightful.
9. Bill, Alice in Wonderland (1951) plus more
Poor Bill. Bill, an anamorphic lizard with a ladder, was first introduced in Alice in Wonderland. He is a denizen of wonderland that is tasked with getting Alice out the white rabbit’s house when she is a giant. It didn’t go well for poor Bill. Bill has also made appearances in other works including, The Great Mouse Detective as part of Ratigan’s gang, Roger Rabbit seen carrying a ladder and in 1999’s Mickey’s Airplane Kit in which he makes a speedy delivery. Bill should be in more Disney works as an Easter egg.
8. Louis, The Princess and the Frog (2009)
While I don’t love the majority of the middle parts of The Princess and the Frog, Louis is delightful. He’s a big and seeming scary looking Alligator but he’s not. Louis is silly, endearing and just wants to play jazz with humans. Defiantly a highlight of that middle chuck of the movie.
7. Joanna the Gonna, The Rescuers Down Under (1990)
Poor Joanna, she is under-appreciated and log-suffering under the bad guy. While she is villainous she is more mischievous and in it for the eggs, which is very relatable.
6. Sir Hiss, Robin Hood (1973)
Sir Hiss flying in the balloon and then getting drunk is such a mood. I also enjoy Hiss’ interaction with the immature Prince John, The Phooey King of England and all his antics. Maybe an unpopular opinion but Hiss is better than Kaa.
5. The Turtle, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
This turtle may not have a name or any line of dialogues but I love him and he makes me happy.
4. Pascal, Tangled (2010)
I love that Rapunzel got a chameleon as a side-kick. I think the general convention would have been to give her a bird or something more traditionally considered cuter but I’m glad the creator differentiated themselves and went for a lizard type. Pascal’s personality is little harder to pin down, he’s Rapunzel’s number one pal and supports her. He also has a feisty steak but for Tangled side-kicks Maximus gets of dynamic personality. Still Pascal is cute.
3. Ju-Ju, The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Mama Oddi’s pet snake, Ju-Ju makes me happy any time he graces the screen. He’s so lovable
2. Bruni the Fire Sprite, Frozen II (2019)
Here’s that aforementioned amphibian exception because while Bruni he is based off of a salamander. Now if I’m being 100% honest Bruni was my favorite part of Frozen 2, hands-down. There are other good elements but Bruni is a major highlight for me. I mean just look at him, is he utterly cute.
Pixar Honorable Mention
Crush and Squirt, Finding Nemo
They are fun. Love their chill vibe.
1. Tick-Tock the Crocodile, Peter Pan (1953)
Speaking of a Disney reptile that spark massive amounts of joy for me personally, Tick-Tock the Croc. Last year when I watched all the animated feature Disney movies, I wasn’t looking forward to watching Peter Pan and aside from that movies massive issues, Tick-Tock the croc was this bright beacon the just made be so happy any time he was on screen. Maybe his goofy gleeful animation that just does it for me. I love him so much. Best part of the movie and the best Disney reptile.
Thought? Do any of these reptiles spark joy for you? Did I miss one???
