For me I hate Bird’s Eye view of Paris but that chapter is so boring and dull it hardly seems like part of narrative so I will say the begining  of the novel, the first few chapter till it follows Gringoire more and stops focusing on  Jehan and random people.

Whenever Hugo goes on a tangent, but not about architecture, but when he spends a long time talking about random officials. I still don’t know Jaque Charmalou as a character, what his importance is, but ol’ Vic seems to. That’s a problem I have with the beginning of the novel as well

Although I like the contents of Bird’s Eye View, I think it drags the narrative down. I remember when I first read the book, how boring the chapter seemed and how it just dragged on. I wish it had been placed at the beginning of the novel, rather than near the middle.

The first time I read the book, I pretty much just skipped that chapter entirely. The second time when I made the effort to read it, it was helpful in understand the geography of where Esmeralda and Frollo were running in the Little Shoe, but it was still boring really boring.
