The third season of  “The Gilded Age” premiered in the summer 2025.  It picks up six months after season two, roughly early spring of 1884. 

Bertha Poised to Take Over the World 

After her triumph in the opera wars Bertha is angleing another victory for her family, the marriage of her daughter Gladys to a member of the British aristocracy. This match would put her family in an unquestionable position as the leaders of American Society, more so than they already were with their seemingly vast wealth, but it comes at the cost to the overall happiness of her family. Unfortunately for Bertha she has a tunnel vision when it comes to this match.

HBO’s “The Gilded Age” Season 2 premiered on October 29th 2023 and features an ensemble cast. As its name suggests the series is set during 1880s a.k.a “The Gilded Age” in New York City.

Season two starts on Easter 1883 and set against the ‘Opera Wars’ which saw the opening of Metropolitan Opera against the ultra exclusive Academy of Music.

If you were a fan of Downton Abbey while it was still airing than you might have caught wind of Julien Fellow’s project, The Gilded Age, originally pitched as a prequel to Downton Abbey. The project soon became its own independent story, finally the first season premiered on HBO, January 24, 2022.

Like Downton Abbey, it sports an ensemble cast made up of renowned Broadway actors. Set in early 1880s New York City, The Gilded Age primarily revolves around an elite in-crowd—”The 400”—made up of old money and upstarts with new money trying to crash the inner circle.
